How Signum Works

From public information to company-specific intelligence.
Signum continuously collects large volumes of fragmented, publicly available business information. Much of it is ordinary and, viewed in isolation, may appear unrelated to any commercial opportunity.
Machines read, classify and structure those observations so they can be evaluated systematically across companies, time and commercial applications.
We then examine multiple independent observations together. Proprietary models incorporating correlation and Regression Analysis help identify combinations, sequences and relationships that have historically preceded relevant commercial outcomes.
Those patterns are evaluated in the context of the individual company. Most companies are filtered out. The unusual few advance to deeper investigation.
Candidates that survive qualification undergo due diligence, chronology review and factual verification. Only when the evidence continues to support the opportunity does Signum produce an Intelligence Brief.
The result is not more data to search. It is a small number of company-specific opportunities that have already survived multiple layers of analysis and verification.

Multi-signal evaluation

Patterns matter more than isolated signals.

Signum does not treat every observed event as a lead.
We evaluate multiple independent observations in the context of the company and the commercial application, then use proprietary models incorporating correlation and Regression Analysis to examine how combinations, sequences and relationships among those observations have historically related to later commercial outcomes.
The purpose is not to predict the future with certainty. It is to identify patterns that are unusual, commercially meaningful and consistent with conditions that have preceded a relevant opportunity.
Statistics help us determine what deserves a closer look. They do not replace investigation.
Beyond intent

Intent begins after the need has started to form.

Traditional intent platforms measure what companies are researching online.
But an internet search is rarely the beginning of a major business decision. By the time a company starts researching equipment, comparing alternatives or visiting relevant websites, a great deal may already have happened.
Operating conditions may have changed. Capacity may have tightened. Alternatives may already have been considered. The company may already recognize the need, even if it has not yet decided how to respond.
Signum looks further upstream.
We evaluate business conditions and patterns that may precede explicit online research, sometimes before the need has even been articulated as a purchase decision.

Signum looks upstream
Traditional intent becomes visible
Online intent can be genuine and still be commercially late.
Intent tells you who may already be looking. Signum looks for the conditions that may cause them to look next.
A search can reveal genuine intent and still arrive too late to be commercially useful. The signal can be real after the opportunity has already passed.

Most companies are filtered out.

Signum begins broadly because commercially meaningful changes can appear in many forms.
But the objective is not to produce more leads. It is to eliminate the ordinary and investigate the unusual.
Multiple layers of filtering, contextual evaluation and statistical analysis reduce a broad universe to a small number of companies that warrant deeper investigation.
Observe broadly Evaluate patterns in context Qualify the unusual few Investigate & verify Intelligence Brief
A database gives you the haystack and leaves you to search it. Signum does the filtering first.
Beyond the model

The model finds what deserves investigation. It does not end the investigation.

Only a small number of companies survive the initial filtering and quantitative evaluation.
Those candidates undergo further research, due diligence, chronology review and factual verification.
The purpose is to test whether the apparent opportunity still holds up when the underlying facts are examined in detail.
If it does not hold up under investigation, it does not become an Intelligence Brief.
Every material factual claim presented as established fact is verified and reverified through the Brief’s Research As-Of Date.
Equipment finance

The equipment purchase is the outcome. The operating change comes first.

Nobody buys a 20-ton excavator on impulse.
A contractor may consider workload, existing capacity, timing, rental, subcontracting, ownership, financing and other alternatives before deciding to acquire another machine.
By the time equipment research, a dealer inquiry, financing activity or the acquisition itself becomes visible, much of that decision process may already have occurred.
Signum looks for the changes that begin the chain.
The result

The unusual few become Intelligence Briefs.

The result is a company-specific assessment designed to answer three practical questions:
Why this company? Why is there an opportunity? Why now?
The Intelligence Brief presents the reason for review, the supporting evidence and the information needed to decide whether the company deserves your attention.
